Club Code of Ethics

Sportsmanship:  Members shall protect and advance the development of the Vizsla and continue to improve its soundness, stable temperament, natural hunting ability and conformation as set forth in the official Vizsla standard.

Health:  Members shall maintain the best possible standards for canine health, cleanliness, and veterinary care.


  • Members shall breed only to improve the breed by breeding those Vizslas who conform to the Vizsla Club of America (VCA) official standards recognized by the American Kennel Club who exhibit soundness, stable temperament and natural hunting ability. All breeding stock shall be registered by the American Kennel Club.
  • Dogs used for breeding must be over 2 years old, have been x-rayed and OFA (Orthopedic Foundation of America) certified as free from hip dysplasia and have a DNA profile.
  • Dogs that have serious hereditary defects (i.e. epilepsy, progressive retinal atrophy, Von Willebrands disease, entropian and cranial muscular atrophy) will not be bred.

Sale of Dogs:

  • Members shall not sell or consign puppies or adult dogs to any commercial business or advertise their puppies via local newspapers.
  • Members shall urge puppy purchasers to spay/ neuter all pets and shall provide a limited registration unless the puppy is to be a show quality dog and exhibited as such. Breeders to support puppy buyers for the life of the dog. They shall accept return of the dog for whatever reason during its lifetime.
  • Members will not release puppies to their new owners under the age of 8 weeks; will screen all prospective buyers in order to ascertain that their intent of purchase and home environment is in the best interest of the puppy and not themselves; furnish details on feeding, care, inoculations, pedigrees, DNA certificates, health clearances of the parents and written sales agreements at the time of sale.
